Introducing Real1Remakes

Real1Remakes is a blog about my adventure in making custom clothing by upcycling clothing from estate sales, auctions, garage and yard sales, and thrift stores. This is motivated by my aversion to walking in a room and having the same outfit as another woman. I am also a tightwad and I know how to sew, so the current "fashions" in retail stores don't tempt me at all. Mom taught me the phrase " I can make that cheaper and better" and it seems to be more true today. I have been inspired by the young women doing the dress a day type blogs, but I am a grown-up, mother of two, and grandmother to three, so sleeveless mini dresses don't suit me in everyday life. My remakes will be items that can be worn more than once and across seasons. Some of the remakes will be simple fixes, or even the story of the discovery of the item with no remake necessary.  Other remakes will be more complicated. Before and after pictures and some description of the process will be included.

This first picture is a top that was a $2 garage sale find that was cute just as it was purchased, but just a bit too big and sloppy. It was marked line dry only, but one day it accidentally got in the dryer and now it fits much better and it softer and more comfortable. Wearing it here with shorts, but also really cute with both denim and khaki skirts as well as jeans and slacks. This top is perfect for travel as it is the kind of knit that can just be wadded up and tossed in the suitcase or backpack and comes out looking perfect every time.

I hope you enjoyed this first installment of Real1Remakes and please stay tuned for more!
